Amdavad Municipal Corporation has kicked off groundwork for the Commonwealth Games 2030, beginning with clearing encroachments around major sporting zones. On Saturday, authorities demolished around 30 residential and commercial structures in Sabarmati to widen a 24-metre road that connects directly to the Narendra Modi Stadium.

Early in the morning, the Estate Department of the West Zone launched the demolition drive in the Tollnaka area, with adequate police deployment to prevent any untoward incidents. The widening of this key stretch is part of a broader plan to expand roads surrounding sports complexes and stadiums across Ahmedabad.

Officials said that during the Commonwealth Games, large crowds of athletes and spectators will move across various venues, making wider roads essential for smooth traffic flow. The corporation has therefore started encroachment removal and road-widening activities well in advance to avoid last-minute rush.
