3 of family killed in accident on Nal Sarovar–Viramgam Highway

Three members of a family were killed and a woman critically injured in a road accident on the Nal Sarovar–Viramgam highway in Ahmedabad district early Friday.

The accident took place between 8 and 8.30 am on the stretch from Kamijla to Vanthal villages when a pickup van allegedly rammed a motorcycle from behind.

According to police, the victims, residents of the Lakhtar area of Surendranagar district, were travelling towards Viramgam on a motorcycle when the incident took place.

Both vehicles were moving in the same direction when the pickup van driver allegedly hit the motorcycle from behind while attempting to overtake, officials said.

A man and a woman, both aged between 30 and 35, died on the spot, while a child succumbed to injuries during treatment at a hospital. A woman injured in the accident remains in critical condition, police said.

The driver of the pickup vehicle fled the scene after the accident, they added.

Police in Viramgam have registered a case against an unidentified driver, and efforts are under way to trace and arrest him.
