In another narcotics bust, the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (SVPIA), Ahmedabad, seized over 12.5 kilograms of hydroponic marijuana, valued at approximately ₹12.56 crore, from three Indian nationals arriving from Bangkok.

Acting on intelligence developed through baggage scanning, AIU officers intercepted a suspected trolley bag belonging to one of the passengers. Upon detailed examination, officials uncovered 24 airtight packets cleverly concealed within the baggage. The contents—a greenish, lumpy substance—were subjected to field testing and confirmed to be high-grade marijuana, cultivated through hydroponic methods.

The total quantity of the seized contraband weighed 12.557 kilograms.

Following the seizure, the three passengers were immediately placed under arrest under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

Authorities suspect the consignment was part of a larger drug trafficking operation and further investigations are underway to identify potential links and collaborators both within and outside the country.

The AIU’s swift action reflects increased surveillance and enforcement efforts at Indian airports to curb the growing trend of international drug smuggling via air routes.
