Despite repeated claims of creating a corruption-free governance system, official data shows that public work in many government offices in Gujarat often does not move forward without ‘payment’. According to the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), complaints received from citizens over the past eight years have led to the corrupt getting trapped across departments.

Between 2018 and October 31, 2025, the ACB caught a total of 3,517 government employees from senior officers to Class-IV staff and middlemen accepting bribes. The combined bribe amount involved in these cases is estimated at ₹9 crore, as per ACB’s official records.

The highest number of cases were registered in the Home Department, where 682 personnel, including senior officers and police constables, were caught.

This was followed by Panchayat Department (405), Revenue Department (302), Education Department (67), Health Department (37), Energy Department (47), Finance Department (47), Urban Development (213), Narmada (49), Industries (44) and Agriculture (40).

In addition, 1,224 central government employees were also booked during this period.

ACB typically sets up traps after receiving verified complaints from citizens. Officials note that the recorded cases represent only those caught during such operations, while the actual number of employees seeking illegal payments could be higher, considering the scale of public interactions with government offices.
