With water-borne and mosquito-borne diseases rising in Ahmedabad, Amdavad Municipal Commissioner Banchhanidhi Pani reportedly slammed senior health officials on Thursday for allegedly showing lower numbers to indicate the outbreak is under control.

The Commissioner warned the Medical Officer to report ground data, including cases recorded by private practitioners and private hospitals.

Meanwhile, the Health Department has listed 27 high-risk areas in the city for cholera and jaundice this post-monsoon season. Even after Diwali, monsoon-like weather continued in the city which led to a surge in cases of viral fever, cough, cold, and water-borne infections.

As per data submitted in the review meeting, this year, the health department collected 5.22 lakh water samples. Of these, 751 samples (0.14%) were found without chlorine. And out of 66,853 samples tested, 578 samples (0.86%) were declared unfit.

The Commissioner directed the Health and Engineering Departments to locate and fix water and drainage leakages urgently in all the identified high-risk areas.
