The cybercrime department has started deactivating malware from around 700 companies that were attacked by Nigerian gangs in the span of 10 days.
The systems are being recovered with the help of cyber experts and cyber forensic experts, and 250 Ahmedabad companies' systems have been recovered from the malware attack.
In the advent of rising cyber security lapses, an important advisory was released by the Ahmedabad Cyber Cell, where it was stated that emails were hacked by sending malware to the email IDs of about 500 well-to-do companies in Gujarat by a Nigerian gang.
As 250 companies out of these 500 are based in Ahmedabad, the cybercrime officials have specially urged to scan any suspicious email before opening it in order to restrict the malware from entering the mobile or computer.
State departments preyed
The hackers didn’t restrict themselves to private companies; and also plagued the systems of government departments. The malware was also sent to the emails of 14 government departments, including Gujarat’s tourism department
Sending the malware, the hackers attempted to obtain sensitive or confidential information about these companies. The attackers would even change the bank details of the companies they were preying on.
Though most of the threats were deactivated by the cybercrime department, many incidents of fraud worth crores have come to light.
To avert that, cybercrime issued this advisory to not open emails with unknown links.
Moreover, on Sept 20, the state’s cybercrime cell took to X and warned about another fraud where the hackers would attempt to send malware through a link for a job application.
