Local residents, aided by the police, intercepted three trucks on Ahmedabad’s SP Ring Road, near Ranasan and rescued buffaloes and other cattle that were being illegally transported to a slaughterhouse.

Acting on a tip-off, Naroda police stopped the suspicious vehicles late Saturday night near the Ranasan toll plaza and found 31 animals, including 25 buffaloes, tied in a inhuman manner.

Maheshwarbhai Rajput, a resident of Noble Nagar–Khodiyar Nagar, and his associates, had alerted the police after learning that the trucks would pass through the area.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the animals had been brought from different parts of Banaskantha and Patan districts.

Police seized all three trucks, shifted the rescued animals to a panjrapol, and registered a case against six persons, including the drivers and cleaners of the vehicles.

Further investigation into the network involved in the illegal transportation of cattle is under way.
