202 DNA matches, 158 bodies handed over to families of Ahmedabad plane crash victims

Almost a week after the deadly AI171 plane crash in Ahmedabad, a total of 206 DNA samples have matched and mortal remains of 169 victims have been handed over to relatives by Wednesday evening.

Gujarat Health Minister Rushikesh Patel took to X to inform that 206 DNA samples have matched, 206 relatives were contacted, and 169 dead bodies were handed over to the respective families.

On Tuesday, Ahmedabad Civil Hospital Superintendent Dr Rakesh Joshi reported that 163 DNA samples have matched. “The mortal remains of 21 deceased will be handed over to their families by Wednesday morning,” Joshi said.

Out of 270 deaths, 241 were people on board (229 passengers, 12 crew members), five persons died at the B J Medical College hostel mess, eight succumbed to injuries on the campus, and five from burns. This leaves 11 bodies still unclaimed.

The authorities have appealed to the public to come out and report if someone they know has been missing.

As per reports, June 12, a total of 71 injured individuals were admitted to the Civil Hospital, with 42 subsequently discharged and currently, nine patients remain admitted. At the same time, two succumbed to their injuries after admission.
