2.9 magnitude earthquake jolts Gujarat's Rajkot

The scorching afternoon of Kathiawar's Rajkot witnessed tremors of 2.9-magnitute in the afternoon of Apr 19.

The epicentre of this earthquake was 16 km south of Rajkot at latitude/longitude 22.1652°N/70.7894°E at 2.09 p.m.

Tremors were experienced near Kotdasangani, Shapar, and Lothda-Piplana in Rajkot. While in some areas, the earthquake went unnoticed, in others, residents hurriedly evacuated their homes.

It is worth noting that around four years ago, a 4.8-magnitude earthquake hit the same epicentre on Apr 16, 2020, at 7.40 a.m.

Tremors were also felt a few days ago in the same area. Jolts and vibration of the earthquake were reportedly captured in CCTV camera of Rajkot's Bahumali Bhavan.

Rajkot collector has ordered Institute of Seismological Research (ISR) report and placed monitoring devices near Rajkot's Padvala.
