2,000 promotional vacancies in Gujarat police to be filled within a month

In a suo moto PIL filed in the Gujarat High Court on issues including damage to public property, lives, role of police and strength during communal riots in the states of the country, the government clarified on Friday that 2,000 promotional vacancies in the police department will be filled within a month.

A decision will also be taken soon on the direct recruitment to the total vacancies in the department.

In the suo moto PIL filed by the High Court on the directions of the Supreme Court regarding the loss of life and property in various states of the country and the role of the police in this matter, on Friday, the state government outlined the recruitment of vacant posts in the police system, stating that the total number of posts to be filled through promotions in the police system is 4,723, out of which 1,006 posts have been filled in the last two months.

The recruitment process for the remaining 3,717 posts will be completed next month. The tender process required for the physical examination is underway, which will be announced after completion.

The government further clarified that, the recruitment process for unarmed PSIs is also ongoing. In which the result of unarmed PSI promotion has been declared in October itself and hence its further process is also in process.

The court also noted that the Police Recruitment Board has now got a full-time chairman.

After considering the submissions and affidavits of the government, the case was listed for further hearing in the second week of January.
