19 road accident injuries every hour in Gujarat this year

As the year 2024 is heading towards a closure, it witnessed a concerning rise in road accidents in Gujarat with over 1.62 lakh individuals being hospitalised after crashes.
There has been a 5.10% increase in the rate of injuries caused by road accidents compared to 2023. More than 1.55 lakh individuals sustained injuries in road accidents in Gujarat in 2023. On average, a total of 19 people were injured in road accidents every hour in the state.
A total of 81,305 individuals were reported to be injured in road accidents between January and June, while 81,649 individuals were injured between July and December.
In 2023, 81,192 people reported being injured in road accidents from January to June. This indicates a worrying increase in road accidents in 2024.
According to EMRI emergency response information, Ahmedabad topped the list of districts in Gujarat where the highest number of people required treatment for road accident injuries.

This year, 27,515 individuals were injured in road accidents in Ahmedabad. On average, 76 individuals were admitted to hospitals daily following road accidents in Ahmedabad.
More than 15% of all road accident injuries in Gujarat this year occurred in Ahmedabad district. Among the districts with the highest number of injuries, Surat ranked second, followed by Vadodara, Rajkot, and Gandhinagar.
Gir Somnath district recorded the highest percentage increase in injuries, with a rise of 14.93%. In Gir Somnath, 1,828 people were injured in 2023, compared to 2,101 injuries reported this year.
