An 18-year-old Ahmedabad entrepreneur has entered Gujarat’s semiconductor sector with a ₹80 crore project to manufacture lead frames in Sanand.

Micronex-Kaynes Semicon MoU

Rehan Mansuri, founder of Micronex Technology, has partnered with Kaynes Semicon through an MoU signed during Semicon India 2026 in New Delhi from September 17 to 19.

The startup plans to establish a lead-frame manufacturing facility at GIDC Sanand. The partnership is aimed at supplying lead frames to semiconductor and packaging companies operating in Gujarat.

Gujarat State Electronics Mission has also confirmed the Micronex-Kaynes Semicon partnership and said the startup plans to submit a proposal under the India Semiconductor Mission’s Semicon 2.0 programme.

₹80 Crore Investment, 250 Jobs

Micronex plans to invest ₹80 crore in the first phase of the project.

According to Mansuri, construction of the factory has started and production is targeted for May 2027. The facility is expected to manufacture around 50 crore lead-frame units annually in its first phase and create direct employment for around 250 people.

The company will initially focus on the power electronics and automotive sectors. It plans to expand into consumer electronics and telecommunications after increasing its production capacity.

What Is A Semiconductor Lead Frame?

A lead frame is a thin metal structure used to support a semiconductor chip and connect it to an external circuit.

Extremely thin gold or copper wires inside a chip are connected to the leads of the frame, allowing the packaged chip to be connected to a circuit board.

Micronex plans to manufacture lead frames using copper alloys, with thickness ranging from 0.1 mm to 0.25 mm. The components provide mechanical support to chips, help dissipate heat and protect them during manufacturing.

Focus On Local Semiconductor Supply Chain

Mansuri said Micronex will initially focus on meeting local demand rather than competing with global manufacturers on price and scale. The company aims to offer faster tooling, sampling, delivery and engineering support while reducing import dependence.

Mansuri said he identified a gap in India’s semiconductor supply chain, particularly in lead-frame manufacturing. Sanand’s growing semiconductor ecosystem also influenced the decision, offering proximity to manufacturers and easier logistics and engineering support.

Micron began commercial production at its Sanand assembly and test facility in February 2026, while Kaynes Semicon’s Sanand facility began production in March.

For Micronex, the planned lead-frame plant adds another component to this developing semiconductor supply chain, with production targeted from 2027.
