174 ‘bogus farmers’ detected in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar in two years

The Gujarat state government has identified 174 cases of “bogus farmer” account holders in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar in two years, amid concerns over misuse of land ownership provisions and government schemes.
These individuals allegedly secured farmer status using forged documents to acquire agricultural land and avail benefits meant for genuine farmers, the state assembly was told.
As per the government response, a total of 89 complaints were registered in Ahmedabad district during the period. The cases were reported from multiple areas, including Vatva, Ghatlodia, Vejalpur, Sabarmati, Dashkroi, Sanand, Bavla, Viramgam, Detroj and Mandal.
In Gandhinagar district, 85 complaints were recorded, including 41 cases in Gandhinagar, 27 in Kalol, 11 in Dehgam and six in Mansa.
The Revenue Department informed the House that in Gandhinagar district, 61 cases have been disposed of, while 24 are still under hearing. In Ahmedabad district, 28 cases have been resolved and 61 remain pending.
The matter has also drawn attention following allegations involving Raman Vora, a former minister, who is accused of obtaining farmer status through disputed documents.
The issue is currently under consideration before the Delhi High Court.
