17 Bangladeshi nationals detained in Ahmedabad for illegal stay, to be deported

In a major crackdown on illegal foreign nationals, the Sola High Court Police in Ahmedabad detained 17 Bangladeshi citizens found living without valid documents in residential areas under its jurisdiction. The detainees have been handed over to the Joint Interrogation Centre (JIC) in Sardarnagar for verification and deportation proceedings.
According to police officials, the action followed directives from Ahmedabad Police Commissioner G S Malik and Joint Commissioner of Police (Sector 1) Neerajkumar Badgujar, who had instructed all city police zones to identify and take action against foreign nationals residing illegally in India.
Multiple teams from the Sola High Court Police Station carried out a coordinated operation led by Police Inspector K N Bhukan. During the operation, teams conducted combing drives in Kabutarkhana, Gujarat Housing Board, and Chanakya Apartment in the Gota area, as well as Shiv Shakti Society in Chandlodia, where the 17 Bangladeshi nationals were found residing without valid documents.
Police said the detained individuals had been living in rented accommodations and working as daily wage labourers, household helpers, or doing odd jobs. Their original places of residence, as per initial questioning, were traced to various districts in Bangladesh, including Khulna, Jessore, Mymensingh, Netrokona, Pubna, Nowakhali, and Satkhira.
The names of those detained include Sati, Bilkish, Ozufa, Rehana Begum, Sonay Bibi, Shanta Khatun alias Meghla, Halima Begum, Jivannahar, Sumaiya Akhtar, Sultana, Parveen Akhtar, Ayesha Khatun, Suma Akhtar, Salma Khatun, Jolly Begum, and Moina Khatun, among others.
Following verification, the police transferred all 17 individuals to the Joint Interrogation Centre (JIC) in Sardarnagar, from where they will be processed for deportation to Bangladesh in coordination with the relevant central agencies.
“The operation was part of a wider initiative to trace and deport foreign nationals illegally residing in Ahmedabad,” a senior police official said. “Further verification of their entry routes and possible local assistance is being carried out.”
The operation was conducted by a 15-member police team. Police sources said that similar drives will continue in other parts of Ahmedabad, particularly in areas where low-cost housing and labour colonies are located, to ensure that foreign nationals living without valid permits are identified and deported.
