Ahmedabad Police have registered a case against an unidentified person who broke into a mobile repair shop in Sabarmati and decamped with 12 mobile phones worth over ₹1 lakh, officials said.

The burglary took place at New Age Infotech Solution in Sabarmati, police said.

Sabarmati resident Ashishkumar Maheshwari (42), states that he runs the mobile and computer repair business at the premises along with a staff member.

In his complaint on February 26, Maheshwari said he had closed his shop around 11.45 pm on February 25 and returned home. At 8.30 am the next morning, he received a call from his staff member informing him that the complex’s security guard had noticed the shop’s glass window shutter open.

Maheshwari, along with his father, rushed to the shop and found that the glass sliding window and the inner shutter had been forced open. On entering the premises, they discovered that items inside were scattered, and several mobile phones kept on the counter and inside a table drawer were missing.

Police said the stolen devices included smartphones and keypad phones of various brands that had been handed over by customers for repair. Some of the phones’ IMEI numbers were available, while others could not be immediately ascertained. The total value of the stolen phones has been estimated at approximately ₹1.09 lakh, police said.

The theft is believed to have occurred between 11.45 pm on February 25 and around 6.30 am on February 26, when an unknown person allegedly opened the glass window slide, gained entry into the shop and stole the devices.

Based on the complaint, police have registered an offence and initiated an investigation. Officials said efforts are under way to examine CCTV footage from the complex and surrounding areas to identify the accused.
