110 cases of dengue in a week, one more death reported in Ahmedabad

Mosquito-borne diseases have cast a sinister shadow over the state; one more death was reported due to dengue fever in Ahmedabad.
A 26-year-old resident of the Lambha area of Ahmedabad died at LG Hospital in Maninagar while undergoing treatment for dengue.
This comes after the death of an 11-year-old girl from Danilimda, who was admitted to SVP Hospital and died on Oct 7.
Dengue cases surged
In Ahmedabad, 110 cases of dengue have been reported in eight days.
2,004 cases of dengue have been reported from Jan to Oct 2023. 13 cases of malaria and 5 cases of chikungunya were reported in the city.
Other water-borne diseases are also on a rise with 90 cases of water-borne diarrhoea and vomiting, 23 cases of jaundice, 104 cases of typhoid, and 5 cases of cholera.
35 cases of cholera were reported in 2022. This year, 80 cases of cholera have been reported so far.
Out of the various water samples taken by the authorities across the city, 10 samples failed the test. The chlorine report for 23 samples was nil .
According to doctors, the highest increase in dengue cases is usually seen between July and September. Going just by the cases reported in Ahmedabad’s Sola Civil Hospital, a total of 826 cases were reported from June 26 to Sept 17 this year.
Gujarat has recorded a total of 15,553 suspected cases of chikungunya as of Sept 17, with 230 confirmed cases.
