1,069 bottles of liquor seized from police constable’s house in Gujarat

A police constable, earlier suspended thrice, was found to be in possession of 1,069 bottles of liquor stacked in his home in Gujarat’s Aravalli. The constable, on duty in Rahiyog village in Aravalli’s Dhansura, is currently absconding.

The Sabarkantha Local Crime Branch (LCB) raided the residence of constable Vijay Chhanabhai Parmar, who has been working in the police department for the last ten years, on Friday night based on a tip-off that there was liquor.

During the raid, 1,069 bottles of liquor worth ₹1.76 lakh were found in the kitchen. A complaint has been filed against the constable under the Prohibition Act.

Based on the information received from the LCB, two police personnel from Aravalli are involved in the illicit activities. In which Vijay Parmar’s involvement was revealed. The nexus with a bootlegger in Malpur taluka was also revealed.

History of offences

Parmar was involved in a liquor case earlier while on duty in Porbandar. Moreover, he was also suspended from Dhansura police station for allegedly intimidating a labourer.

In 2023, Sabarkantha LCB team had nabbed two police personnel from Aravalli transporting liquor. The court had then approved the three-day remand of the accused, and he was suspended. At that time, during the remand, a list of 100 bootleggers was recovered from Vijay Parmar.
