₹10 lakh MGNREGA funds spent, yet Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan remains incomplete in Chhotaudepur

Allegations of financial irregularities have surfaced in Naswadi taluka of Gujarat’s Chhotaudepur district, where over ₹10 lakh sanctioned under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) scheme for the construction of a Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan has reportedly been spent without the project being completed.
As per local sources, the building near Khambhayata Chowkdi remains unfinished years after funds were disbursed, with only partial construction carried out. The structure has since fallen into disuse, with vegetation growing around the site.
Officials said the funds were released by the taluka panchayat to the then village sarpanch and talati, following approvals under the scheme. It is alleged that inflated or bogus bills were submitted during the process, leading to excess expenditure without corresponding progress on the ground.
The project, initiated around seven years ago, has remained incomplete since, with no visible efforts made to resume construction. Allegations have also been raised that the matter has not seen any significant administrative action so far.
Sources claimed that the case has been reviewed on multiple occasions, but no concrete steps have been taken against those allegedly involved.
The MGNREGA scheme aims to provide employment and create durable rural assets, but concerns have been raised over the utilisation of funds.
