10 Gujaratis rank in the Top 100 in JEE Advanced: AIR 12 for Ahmedabad’s Mohit
The results of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced, the gateway for admission into various Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and other institutes, have been declared. For the first time, 10 students from Gujarat have secured positions in the top 100 national ranks.
In 2024, six students from the state were in the top 100. A student from Gujarat had secured the 7th rank. However, this year, no student from Gujarat has made it to the top 10. However, Ahmedabad’s Mohit Agrawal has ranked 12th nationally, placing him among the top 20.

A total of 6,935 students registered for the JEE Advanced from Gujarat exam this year. Out of these, 6,343 appeared, and 2,095 qualified—resulting in a 33% success rate. Notably, for the first time, 10 students from Gujarat have made it into the top 100 ranks. Ahmedabad’s Mohit Agrawal scored 315 out of 390 and secured a spot in the top 20 nationally.
It is estimated that over 30 students from Gujarat are ranked in the top 500 across the country. This marks the first time that the number of top-rankers from the state has increased so significantly, leading to Gujarat's highest-ever result in the exam.
There are a total of 18,160 seats across 23 IITs in India. The central online admission process is now underway through the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA).
Interestingly, this year’s JEE Advanced exam was notably tough, resulting in a significant drop of 33 marks in the qualifying cutoff. Despite the difficulty, around 5,000 more students qualified compared to last year, which had over 48,000 qualifiers.
Following the JEE Main, the JEE Advanced was conducted across the country on May 18, 2025. This year, IIT Kanpur conducted the examination. Out of 2.59 lakh students eligible to appear after qualifying JEE Main, 1,87,223 registered for JEE Advanced. Of these, 1,80,422 students actually took the exam, and 54,378 qualified.

Out of the total qualified candidates, 44,974 are boys and 9,404 are girls. Among them, 54,147 are from India and 13 are foreign nationals or belong to other OCI categories. The top ranker in the country is Rajat Gupta, originally from Rajasthan and appearing under the Delhi zone.
