10 cops suspended for taking ₹20,000 bribe from Delhi man
Seven TRB jawans were removed from their services, and three traffic police personnel suspended

In the ‘dry state’ Gujarat alcohol-linked corruption continues to prevail.
The law and order in Ahmedabad is raising concerns, as an incident where traffic police and the traffic regulatory brigade (TRB) extorted outsiders of ₹20,000 in an alcohol case.
This incident occurred on Nov 19 when there was a huge influx of tourists in the city for the World Cup finals. A Delhi-based businessman Kanav Manchanda, along with his friends, was in his car when he was stopped by the cops late in the night near the Nana Chiloda Circle.
Four personnels of the G division traffic police stopped the car for checking and found a bottle of liquor. The driver informed that he was from Delhi and had left the bottle unintentionally.
The police, instead of following the legal procedure, took the driver and passengers in a police van, and after driving them around a bit, asked for ₹2 lakh from Manchanda’s friend, Arun Hadiyol. After negotiating and receiving ₹20,000 online, they released Manchanda and his friends.
Strict measures
Safin Hasan, deputy commissioner of police (DCP), traffic (east) city, received a lead on the incident, suspended three traffic police personnel, and reprimanded the whole team of G division traffic police, deployed at Nana Chiloda Circle on the same night.
Seven TRB jawans were removed from their services by the DCP.
No complaint registered
As of now, Manchanda has refused to lodge a complaint in the case; however, K division traffic police inspector JB Agrawat and his team have been sent to get the complaint registered.
Notably, in August, two traffic policemen and a TRB jawan extorted money from a couple travelling from the airport late at night.
