The Naroda police have registered a theft case after ₹1.87 lakh allegedly went missing from the drawer of a petrol pump manager’s in the Naroda area of Ahmedabad.
According to Naroda police, Indrajitsinh Santoksinh Kapoor (53), manager of Vihat Petroleum near Hanspura D-Mart, reported that the theft took place on April 23, but was formally reported on May 5 after internal inquiries failed to identify the culprit.
In his complaint, Kapoor stated that owing to reports of a petrol price hike, the petrol pump had witnessed unusually heavy customer traffic and long queues on the day of the incident.
Around 1 pm, employees working at Station No. 5 allegedly handed over the day’s cash collection to him. After counting the amount, Kapoor said he found it to be ₹1.87 lakh, which he placed in the drawer of his office desk before leaving to attend to work elsewhere on the premises.
When he returned to his desk at approximately 3 pm, the cash was allegedly missing from the drawer.
The complainant told police that he initially conducted his own inquiries and questioned staff members working at the petrol pump, but none claimed knowledge of the missing money. After failing to trace the amount internally, he approached the police and lodged a formal complaint against an unidentified person.
Police have registered an offence of theft against an unknown accused and commenced investigation.
Officers are expected to examine CCTV footage from the petrol pump and record statements of employees as part of the investigation.
