A major burglary worth ₹1.47 crore was reported from Manekbaug Society in Ahmedabad’s Ambawadi, where unidentified thieves broke into the bungalow of an eye specialist while the family was on vacation abroad.
The theft occurred at the residence of Dr Sunil Amrutlal Shah, who had traveled to Dubai for five days with his wife and son during the Makar Sankranti (Uttarayan) holidays. Taking advantage of the locked house, the burglars forced entry by breaking a wooden window and iron grill located next to the main entrance.
According to the complaint filed at the Satellite Police Station, the thieves broke open safes and secret lockers in two bedrooms, stealing ₹45 lakh in cash and 203 tolas of gold jewellery, including gold coins and biscuits.
When the family returned on the morning of January 16, they found household items disturbed, a bag lying open on the sofa, and important documents scattered. The stolen items include:
Five diamond jewellery sets
Diamond bracelet
Six rings
16 gold jewellery sets
Four necklaces
Ten gold bangles
Two gold tikas
500 grams of gold coins and biscuits
