Women’s Gambling Club Busted in Veraval: 13 Caught Red-Handed Ahead of Janmashtami

The Local Crime Branch (LCB) busted a women-run gambling club operating out of a residential building in Veraval, arresting 13 women from prominent social backgrounds late at night, as per reports.

The raid reportedly took place at around 11 pm in a house located in Jalaram Society near Gita Vidyalaya. The operation reportedly came just days ahead of the Janmashtami festival, a period traditionally associated with card gambling in the region.

Police reportedly said the gambling den was being operated by a local woman identified as Kundanben Makhecha. Acting on specific intelligence, the LCB team stormed the residential premises and caught 13 women red-handed while they were playing cards for money. All 13 individuals were taken into custody and booked under the relevant sections of the Gambling Act, as per reports.

Political Interference Alleged Following Late-Night Bust

The late-night raid created a stir in the city, with intense political pressure reportedly exerted on the police machinery to stall legal proceedings. Discussion gathered momentum across Veraval regarding frequent phone calls made by political figures to senior police officers following the arrests to intervene in the matter.

Despite the political phone calls ringing through the night, the LCB proceeded with formal legal action against all those apprehended.

The discovery of a full-fledged gambling club run by and catering to women from elite society inside a quiet residential neighborhood has become the primary topic of discussion across Gir Somnath district.

Police have reportedly launched a broader investigation to ascertain how long the club had been operational, who else supported its management behind the scenes, and whether a wider network is involved in running similar gambling dens in the area ahead of the festival season.
