Two Children in Godhra Taluka Dies Due to Chandipura Virus

Two children from Vinjol and Jitpura villages in Godhra taluka have died after testing positive for the Chandipura virus, prompting the Gujarat Health Department to launch an intensive containment and surveillance operation in the affected areas.

During the primary epidemiological investigation, health officials detected sandflies, the known vectors of the Chandipura virus, in both villages. As these insects commonly breed in cracks and crevices of mud houses, authorities have begun extensive insecticide spraying in the affected villages and surrounding areas to curb the spread of the virus.

Health teams conduct door-to-door surveys

Specialised medical teams from Godhra Medical College and Vadodara Medical College have been deployed to the affected villages. Local health officials are also carrying out door-to-door health surveys and screening to identify any additional suspected cases.

The Health Department said precautionary health surveys have also been completed in villages and districts that reported Chandipura virus cases during the 2024 outbreak.

Parents urged to watch for symptoms

Health officials have advised parents to seek immediate medical attention if children develop symptoms such as high fever, vomiting, convulsions or loss of consciousness, as early diagnosis and treatment are critical.

No other Chandipura cases in Gujarat: Minister

Gujarat Health Minister Praful Pansheriya said no other Chandipura virus cases have been detected elsewhere in the state apart from the two affected villages in Godhra.

He urged the public not to panic and advised residents to take preventive measures, including sealing cracks in mud walls, maintaining hygiene around homes and protecting children from mosquito and insect bites.
