Roopavant Singh Relieved Of Additional Charge, Ajay Bhadoo Gets MD's Post

The Gujarat government has appointed 1999-batch IAS officer Ajay Bhadoo as the Managing Director of the Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation (GMDC) following his repatriation to the state cadre.

According to a notification issued by the General Administration Department on September 28, 2026, Bhadoo's services have been placed at the disposal of the Industries and Mines Department for appointment as Managing Director, GMDC, Ahmedabad. He will relieve Roopwant Singh, IAS, who was holding additional charge of the post.

Bhadoo Returns To Gujarat Cadre

The notification states that the appointment follows Bhadoo's repatriation to the Gujarat government. Bhadoo is a Gujarat-cadre IAS officer of the 1999 batch. He has held several positions in the state as well as on central deputation.

He has previously served as Secretary to the Gujarat Chief Minister, District Collector of Mehsana, and in senior administrative positions connected with Gujarat's urban infrastructure and development bodies. He also served as Deputy Election Commissioner at the Election Commission of India and later as Additional Secretary in the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

Roopwant Singh To Be Relieved Of Additional Charge

With Bhadoo's appointment, Roopwant Singh will be relieved of the additional charge of Managing Director, GMDC, as specified in the government notification.

In July, with the additional charge of GMDC, Singh was appointed as Commissioner of State Tax.

The appointment comes after Bhadoo's return from his central deputation to the Gujarat cadre. A report published on September 24 had also indicated that Bhadoo was due to return to Gujarat at the end of the month.
