Monsoon Surge: Gujarat Reservoirs Cross 54% Storage, 21 Dams On High Alert

Heavy monsoon rainfall across Gujarat has pushed water levels sharply higher in the state's reservoirs, with cumulative storage in 207 major reservoirs crossing 54% as of Monday morning, according to a Water Resources Department report.

The report, issued at 8 am on July 27, said 13 reservoirs had reached full capacity, prompting authorities to place 21 dams on high alert. Five reservoirs are under general alert, while warning signals have been issued for 13 others.

Sardar Sarovar Dam At 69.25% Capacity

The Sardar Sarovar Narmada Dam, a key source of water for the state, holds 2,31,342 MCFT, equivalent to 69.25% of its total storage capacity. The reservoir is currently receiving an inflow of 3,232 cusecs.

The remaining 206 reservoirs collectively hold 2,53,336 MCFT of water, with storage at 45.41% of their combined capacity.

Despite the sharp rise in water levels, the state's overall reservoir storage remains below last year's 61% recorded on the same date.

Damanganga Records Highest Inflow

The Damanganga Dam recorded the highest inflow in the state at 27,412 cusecs, while controlled outflows exceeded 37,000 cusecs.

The Ukai Reservoir is receiving an inflow of 11,689 cusecs. Other major reservoirs, including Karjan, Dhodadhroi, Wanakbori, Kadana, Keliya and Juj, are also witnessing significant inflows ranging from around 1,200 to 27,000 cusecs.

Central Gujarat Leads Regional Storage

Central Gujarat currently has the highest regional storage, with its 17 reservoirs holding more than 50% of their capacity.

Saurashtra's 141 reservoirs have recorded storage of over 47%, while South Gujarat stands at 45% and North Gujarat at 39%. Kutch has the lowest storage level, with its 20 reservoirs holding around 25% of capacity.
