Gujarat Hikes SPIPA Stipend, UPSC Incentives; Successful Women Candidates to Get Up to ₹2.05 Lakh

The Gujarat government has significantly increased the stipend and incentive assistance for candidates preparing for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination at the Sardar Patel Institute of Public Administration (SPIPA), Ahmedabad, and its regional training centres.

The General Administration Department has issued an official resolution approving the revised financial assistance for candidates at various stages of the UPSC examination.

Key highlights

• Monthly stipend for prelims preparation: ₹4,000.
• Maximum stipend period: Seven months or until the UPSC Preliminary Examination.
• Maximum assistance for successful male candidates: ₹1.55 lakh.
• Maximum assistance for successful female candidates: ₹2.05 lakh.
• Revised rates approved after Finance Department's consent.

Monthly stipend for prelims candidates

Under the revised rules:

• All SPIPA students preparing for the UPSC Preliminary Examination will receive a monthly stipend of ₹4,000.
• The stipend will be paid for a maximum of seven months or until the preliminary examination is conducted.

Incentives at different stages

Candidates clearing different stages of the UPSC Civil Services Examination will receive financial assistance as follows:

*The assistance payable after clearing the preliminary examination will be released after deducting the stipend amount already paid to SPIPA students.

Total assistance

Candidates who successfully complete the entire selection process will be eligible for:

• Male candidates: Up to ₹1.55 lakh.
• Female candidates: Up to ₹2.05 lakh.

Provision for non-domicile candidates

The state government has also introduced incentives for non-domicile candidates studying or working in Gujarat.

Candidates who join SPIPA's personality test training programme and are subsequently selected in the Civil Services Examination will receive:

• Male candidates: ₹25,000.
• Female candidates: ₹35,000.

Government approval

The revised assistance has been approved by the General Administration Department after obtaining the consent of the Finance Department.

The state government said the enhanced financial support is expected to assist candidates preparing for the UPSC Civil Services Examination and encourage more aspirants from Gujarat to secure positions in the civil services.
