The Kalol Taluka Police in Gandhinagar have uncovered a new modus operandi adopted by drug traffickers, who are allegedly using motorcycles instead of four-wheelers to transport narcotics and evade police checkpoints. Two men from Ahmedabad were arrested with 5.060 kg of ganja, while two alleged suppliers have been declared wanted.
According to police, traffickers have started transporting narcotic substances on sports bikes and ordinary motorcycles through village roads and interior routes to avoid routine vehicle checks and road blockades. The latest seizure exposed this emerging trend during a raid near Dhedhu Chokdi on the Balva road in Gandhinagar district.
Acting on intelligence, the Kalol Taluka Police intercepted a motorcycle carrying two suspects from the Vastral area of Ahmedabad. During the search, police recovered 5.060 kg of illegal ganja concealed in a plastic container carried on the motorcycle.
The seized ganja is valued at approximately ₹2.53 lakh. Police also confiscated the motorcycle and other items, taking the total value of the seized property to ₹4.39 lakh. A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The arrested accused have been identified as Neeraj Jayantilal Panchal and Bunty Ashokbhai Nai, both residents of Vastral, Ahmedabad.
During preliminary interrogation, the accused allegedly disclosed that the contraband had been supplied by Ankit Ambalal Patel of the Ramol-Vastral area in Ahmedabad and Narpatsinh Jagatsinh Barad of Satlasana, who have been named as wanted accused in the case.
