Gandhinagar Building Iron Slab Collapse: All 15 Workers Rescued From Debris, 12 Admitted To Civil Hospital

In a major breakthrough late Wednesday night, emergency responders pulled all 15 trapped workers alive from under the rubble following a structural collapse at an under-construction site in the Kudasan area of Gandhinagar.

Out of the 15 workers rescued during the high-stakes operation, 12 remain admitted to the Gandhinagar Civil Hospital, while three have been discharged after receiving preliminary treatment.

Although a few of the admitted workers are undergoing close observation in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), medical officials confirmed that none are in a critical condition.

Swift Joint Response Prevents Tragedy

The accident occurred at an under-construction commercial building 'Bosky the Empire' in Kudasan when a portion of the structure, including an elevated ramp and iron slab, suddenly gave way during active construction work. The exact trigger behind the structural failure is yet to be established.

Disaster response mechanisms swung into action immediately after the collapse was reported. Teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation, the local police, and the fire brigade converged on the site within minutes.

Equipped with specialised cutters, heavy machinery, and life-detection tools, rescue personnel systematically extricated the workers buried under concrete and iron framework, pulling them out one after another.

"Had there been a delay of even a few minutes, the outcome could have been very different," a senior official involved in the rescue efforts said. "The teams reached the spot quickly with specialised equipment and rescued the workers one after another before shifting them to hospital."

Search Continues Until Debris Fully Cleared

Although statements from the site manager and the building contractor indicate that all personnel present on duty during the shift have been accounted for, administrative authorities refuse to stand down operations prematurely.

Heavy earthmovers and rescue crews will remain on site to clear the entire mound of rubble, ensuring no person remains trapped underneath the structural ruins.

"According to the information provided by the contractor and the site manager, no person is believed to be trapped inside. However, we do not want to take any risk," an official coordinating the ground response noted.

"The entire machinery of the state and district administration is at the site, and the debris will be cleared so that we can confirm that no one remains trapped,” he added.

Senior departmental officers managed operations on the ground, while Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel continuously monitored the situation. The Chief Minister issued strict directions to ensure state-of-the-art medical care and assistance for all injured workers.

A formal inquiry is slated to investigate the cause of the collapse and determine if safety regulations were flouted during construction.
