Zee files case against Nykaa over song use in reels

A legal dispute has emerged between Zee Entertainment Enterprises and Nykaa over the use of songs on social media. As per reports, Zee has filed a case in the Delhi High Court, asking for damages of around $210,000 (approx ₹1.7 crore).
Zee claims that Nykaa used its copyrighted songs in Instagram reels to promote its products. The company says it already has a licensing agreement with Meta Platforms, which allows individuals to use its music only for non-commercial purposes.
Short video formats like Instagram reels have become a popular marketing tool for brands. Many companies use trending songs to make their content more engaging and reach a wider audience .As per reports, Zee has flagged 12 specific reels where its songs were allegedly used without permission. During the hearing, Nykaa’s lawyer told the court that the links had already been taken down, which was also noted in the court order.
Both companies have not given any public statement on the issue so far. The matter is still ongoing, and the next hearing is scheduled for May 26.
