Yash’s Toxic Gets ‘A’ Certificate With No Cuts; CBFC Asks For Just Two Minor Changes

Ahead of its theatrical release, Kannada star Yash’s pan-India film Toxic has received an ‘A’ certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) without any cuts, with the censor board seeking only two minor modifications.

The decision has sparked amusement on social media, particularly because the film is being promoted as a dark and violent revenge drama and has been compared with other recent action films that faced more extensive cuts.

Toxic Gets Two Minor Modifications

According to the CBFC certificate, Toxic has a runtime of 3 hours and 12 minutes and has been cleared for release in Kannada and English.

The board has asked the makers to mute and replace two words or phrases in the Kannada version, with corresponding changes required in the English subtitles.

The statutory anti-smoking and anti-drinking warnings will also have to be added.

Beyond these modifications, the CBFC has not ordered any cuts to the film. However, Toxic has been given an ‘A’ certificate, restricting its theatrical viewing to adult audiences.

Internet Compares Toxic With Dhurandhar

The lack of cuts has surprised some social media users, particularly because Dhurandhar, another recent film known for its violent content, reportedly underwent several cuts.

Some users questioned why Toxic escaped cuts despite being described as similarly, or even more, violent.

The discussion has also extended to the film's portrayal of women, with social media users commenting on its intimate scenes, imagery and dialogue.

One strand of online discussion compared the CBFC's treatment of Toxic with its reported approach to kissing scenes in other Hollywood films, including Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Superman.

These reactions reflect social media commentary and do not represent the CBFC's stated reasons for clearing the film without cuts.

Yash Warned That Toxic Is Not For Children

Before the CBFC certification, Yash had repeatedly indicated that Toxic was intended for an adult audience.

Speaking on Aap Ki Adalat, the actor and co-writer said children should not watch the film and described it as having a mature theme and a deeper storyline.

The ‘A’ certification now formally reflects the film's intended adult audience.

Geetu Mohandas Directs Toxic

Directed by Geetu Mohandas, Toxic features Yash alongside Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, Rukmini Vasanth and Tara Sutaria.

The film, shot in Kannada and English, is being positioned as a major pan-India release and is scheduled to hit theatres on August 26.
