Jana Nayagan, starring Vijay, is likely to be released in cinemas worldwide on May 8 following a series of delays, according to media reports. An official announcement from the makers is awaited.

The political action drama, backed by KVN Productions, was initially slated for release during the Pongal 2026 festival but was postponed due to issues related to certification.

The film reportedly faced hurdles with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), which prevented its release despite advance bookings said to have crossed ₹100 crore. Sources indicate that the issues have now been resolved, paving the way for its theatrical debut, although the censor certificate has yet to be updated on the CBFC’s official portal.

The latest development comes shortly after the film was leaked online in high-definition format, raising concerns over its potential impact on box office performance. However, industry observers note that Vijay’s strong theatrical appeal could mitigate losses.

Directed by H Vinoth, the film reportedly features Vijay as a former police officer. The cast includes Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Prakash Raj, Gautham Vasudev Menon and Mamitha Baiju.

The film is also being described as Vijay’s final screen outing, adding to the anticipation around its release. Its theatrical debut is expected to follow the announcement of the Tamil Nadu Assembly Election Results on May 4, a factor that could influence audience turnout.

The producers have yet to formally confirm the reported May 8 release date.
