TMKOC’s Tanmay Vekaria Recalls Father’s Last Wish To Watch His Episodes: ‘But That Could Not Happen’

‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’ actor Tanmay Vekaria, popularly known as Bagha, turned emotional while recalling his late father’s last wish — to watch his son’s episodes after returning home from the hospital. Tanmay had promised they would binge-watch the show together, but the moment never came.

‘Once I come home, show me all your episodes’

Tanmay revealed that while his father was hospitalised, Bagha and Bawri’s love story track was airing on ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’. His father, a regular viewer of the sitcom, continued to follow updates about the show even from the hospital.

“My father had a habit of watching ‘Taarak Mehta’ every day between 8.30 and 9 p.m. When he was in the hospital and my track was on air, he told me, ‘Your story is going very well. Even the hospital staff is talking about it. Once I come home, show me all your episodes on YouTube. I would like to watch them,’” Tanmay recalled.

The actor promised his father they would watch the episodes together once he returned home.

“I told him, ‘You come home and we’ll do a binge-watch together.’ But that could not happen,” Tanmay said as he became emotional.

Father told him to put work first

Tanmay also recalled how his father urged him not to abandon his professional commitments even during difficult times.

“He told me that if any such news comes while I was on the set, don’t run back immediately. Complete work as much as you can. The producer should not suffer any loss,” he shared.

Tanmay said these values came from growing up in a theatre family. Recalling his father’s dedication, he said his father once performed on stage just hours after losing his own sister.

The actor believes his parents continue to bless him, his family and the entire ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’ team, adding that he hopes to pass their values on to his children.

Tanmay Vekaria has been playing Bagha, Jethalal’s loyal employee at Gada Electronics, in the long-running sitcom alongside Dilip Joshi.
