Rani Kapur, widow of industrialist Dr. Surinder Kapur and mother of late businessman Sunjay Kapur, has approached the Delhi High Court, accusing her daughter-in-law Priya Kapur of fraud and illegal takeover of the family estate and Sona Group companies, as per reports.

In her petition, Rani Kapur reportedly alleged that Priya Kapur, along with other family members, created a fraudulent trust called the “RK Family Trust” in 2017 to divert her assets without her consent. She has asked the court to declare the trust illegal, cancel all actions taken under it, and restore her full control over her assets and companies.

According to the plea, Dr Surinder Kapur left all his movable property, including controlling stakes in Sona Group companies, solely to Rani Kapur. The will was probated in January 2016, and none of the three children raised an objection, as per reports.

Rani Kapur claimed that after she suffered a stroke in September 2017, she became dependent on Sunjay Kapur and his wife priya. During this period, -her assets were allegedlt secretly transferred into the RK Family Trust, which excluded her as a beneficiary.

She stated that she had already created two valid trusts in 2016—the Dr. SK Family Trust and the MK Family Trust—where she remained the settlor and main beneficiary. She claimed she was misled about the existence of the RK Family Trust until documents surfaced during a 2023 intellectual property dispute, according to reports.

After Sunjay Kapur’s death in June 2025, Priya Kapur allegedly took control of key management positions and restricted her access to company communication by blocking her email, as per Rani Kapur.

Rani Kapur is reportedly seeking cancellation of the trust, forensic examination of documents, restoration of assets, and court orders stopping the defendants from using her bank accounts, digital signatures, or claiming authority over her estate.
