Singing Through the Pain: Sonu Nigam Performs Classic Track Mid-Surgery

Renowned playback singer Sonu Nigam turned an operating theatre into a temporary concert venue, breaking into song mid-surgery to entertain his medical team while undergoing a complex procedure.

Despite being on the operating table, the veteran artist delivered an impromptu rendition of Mohammed Rafi’s iconic 1949 track “Suhani raat dhal chuki” from the movie Dulari. Nigam later shared a video of the rare moment on Instagram, capturing the stunned yet appreciative reaction of his surgeon, Dr. Nilesh Satbhai, and the surrounding surgical team. 

Captioning the clip, Nigam wrote, "An impromptu performance for dear @drnileshsatbhai and his loving team during my surgery. Singing in the pain.. the Joy of Music!" The post immediately prompted an outpouring of support from fans and industry colleagues wishing him a swift recovery.

Battling a Debilitating Nerve Condition

While the exact nature of the specific surgical procedure remains undisclosed, Nigam recently opened up to fans about an ongoing medical ordeal. In a health update posted to social media earlier this summer, the singer revealed he has been dealing with a severe nerve-related condition that required extensive diagnostic work, including multiple MRI and CT scans.

"My nerves are pinched. I have been taking MRI and CT scans for a week. I have been taking a lot of medicines," Nigam explained in the video, pointing out a therapeutic patch applied near his neck. 

He noted that the pinched nerve had directly impacted his vocal mechanics, creating a persistent feeling of heaviness in his throat and making basic vocalization uncomfortable.

Painful Rehabilitation and Industry Support

The recovery process has proven particularly grueling for the singer, who described his intense physical therapy regimen as exceptionally painful. "Physiotherapy was very painful. I am taking painkillers now. Due to that, my throat is also a little heavy," Nigam shared with his followers, acknowledging the double burden of managing physical distress while trying to protect his singing voice.

Despite these physical hurdles, Nigam's ability to hit classic notes while actively undergoing surgery underscored his legendary dedication to his craft.
