Veteran Indian actor Simi Garewal has shared her deep emotions and gratitude after the classic film Aranyer Din Ratri (Days and Nights in the Forest), directed by the legendary Satyajit Ray, was selected to be showcased at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival 2025.

Taking to Instagram, Garewal expressed her disbelief and joy, writing, “Could never have imagined that 56 years later this film would take me to the red carpet in Cannes. Am so blessed..”

The restoration of Aranyer Din Ratri is an extraordinary gift, not just to those of us who were part of the film, but to world cinema. To have it premiere at Cannes Film Festival is a beautiful tribute to Satyajit Ray’s timeless brilliance.

“I still remember the silence of the forests, the rhythm of the shoot... Working with Satyajit Ray was like stepping into the mind of a quiet genius – every word, every gesture mattered, and he had this rare ability to make you discover depths in yourself you didn't know existed”, She added.

Talking further about her outfit she is going to wear at Cannes Festival, she mentioned “So I’ve finally decided as to who will design my ensemble for the red carpet in Cannes!! It’s on 19th May, when we present my film with Ray, ‘Arranyer Din Ratri’ restored by Wes Anderson, Martin Scorcese & Heritage Foundation. Because I love their aesthetics...I've chosen karleo”.

The 78th edition of the Cannes Film Festival will be held from May 13 to May 24, 2025.
