Sanjay Dutt to return as ‘Ballu’ in ‘Khal Nayak’ sequel, reveals he got the idea in jail

Sanjay Dutt is all set to come back as his character Ballu in ‘Khalnayak Returns’, a new film based on the 1993 blockbuster Khal Nayak. The announcement was made during an event in Mumbai, where a short teaser was also shown. In the teaser, Sanjay is seen in a strong and rugged avtar, bringing back the vibe of his famous anti-hero role.
The project is being made under Sanjay’s production house along with Aksha Kamboj’s Aspect Entertainment. The team has taken the official right from director Subhash Ghai and his company Mukta Arts to take the story forward.
Speaking at the event, Sanjay appreciated Subhash Ghai and said The journey of Khalnayak has been long, and without Subhash ji, it wouldn’t have been possible. He is a legend and the man of entertainment. He will be part of this Khalnayak,” he told reporters.
He also shared how the idea of making a sequel came to him during his jail time. “In jail, I asked everyone around me who would be interested in watching it. And the 4,000 inmates said they all would. I asked all of them to write one page about it, and it took me a while to read all 4,000 pages. When I came out on parole, I asked Subhash sir to go through it. After that, he said it should be made,” the actor recalled.
Subhash Ghai also spoke about the film and said, “It was his inner wish and passion of Sanju and Maanyata (Sanjay’s wife) to make this. I’m sure it’s going to be better. I’m always there to be of any help.”
The original film, which also featured Jackie Shroff and Madhuri Dixit, was a huge success and later became a cult classic. As of now, the makers have not revealed much about the storyline or whether it will be a direct sequel or a fresh take.
