Samay Raina’s entire India Tour cancelled, after Gujarat show called off

Stand-up comedian Samay Raina’s entire Unfiltered India tour has been cancelled following the controversy surrounding his show ‘India’s Got Latent’ (IGT). The cancellations began in Gujarat, where performances in Ahmedabad and Surat were called off after objections from the Vishwa Hindu Parishad. Now, all his scheduled shows across the country have been removed from the ticketing platform BookMyShow.

Until recently, tickets for Raina’s shows in major cities like Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Kolkata, and Delhi NCR were still available. However, they are now marked as ‘closed’, and BookMyShow no longer lists any upcoming performances for his tour. Even searching for Raina’s name on the platform only brings up his profile, with no active show listings.

India’s Got Latent controversy

The controversy erupted after YouTuber and influencer Ranveer Allahbadia made an inappropriate comment on parents to a contestant on ‘India’s Got Latent’. The remark sparked outrage online, leading to severe backlash.

Complaints were subsequently filed in Guwahati and Mumbai, accusing Allahbadia and others involved in the show of making obscene and offensive comments. The Mumbai Police have now booked Allahbadia, Raina, and several others, including Apoorva Mukhija and Ashish Chanchlani, who were also guests on the show. Mukhija and Chanchlani were summoned for questioning, while Allahbadia, who failed to appear on Thursday, has been issued a fresh notice to appear on Friday.

Raina deletes IGT episodes

In response to the backlash, Raina has removed all episodes of ‘India’s Got Latent’ from his YouTube channel. The decision comes as legal action intensifies against those associated with the show.

Meanwhile, Allahbadia, who recently received the ‘Disruption of the Year’ award at the National Creator Awards from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, now faces allegations of using vulgar language and misusing freedom of speech. The controversy has sparked a larger debate about the boundaries of humour and free expression in digital content.
