Ranveer Singh-starrer ‘Dhurandhar’ to screen in revised version from January 1 amid controversy

Aditya Dhar’s spy-thriller Dhurandhar continues to dominate headlines, finding itself at the centre of both massive box-office success and controversy. The film has scripted history by earning over ₹1,100 crore globally. However, following an advisory from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, a revised version of the film will be screened in theatres from January 1.

According to reports, certain contentious dialogues in the film have been modified after the government’s intervention. Notably, the word “Baloch” has been muted in the revised cut. Distributors issued emails to cinema halls across the country on December 31, instructing them to replace the earlier DCP (digital cinema package) with the revised version. As a result, audiences watching the film from January 1, 2026, onwards will see the updated edit.

Despite the changes, Dhurandhar continues its extraordinary run at the box office. The Ranveer Singh-led film has crossed ₹1,113 crore worldwide, securing its place among the highest-grossing Indian films of all time and emerging as the biggest film of the actor’s career.

Adding to the buzz, the makers have already announced Dhurandhar Part 2, which is slated for release on March 19, 2026—an unusually quick turnaround for a sequel. Directed by Aditya Dhar of Uri: The Surgical Strike fame, the film further cements the director’s track record of delivering back-to-back blockbusters.
