Producers withdraw court case over Vijay’s ‘Jana Nayagan’, certification process to resume

The legal dispute surrounding the certification of actor Vijay’s film ‘Jana Nayagan’ is nearing resolution after the producers have reportedly decided to withdraw their petition against the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), allowing the film’s certification process to proceed before the revising committee, as per reports.
The writ petition has reportedly been listed “for withdrawal” before Justice P T Asha of the Madras High Court on February 10, 2026, marking a significant step towards clearing the film’s long-pending censor hurdles.
The production house informed the registry that it no longer intends to pursue the litigation and will instead follow the CBFC’s official certification process, stated the reports, citing court filings.
As per reports, the producers’ decision comes after the CBFC referred the film to its revising committee following procedural objections raised by a board member concerning certain references in the film. With the withdrawal of the case, the legal proceedings are expected to conclude, leaving the revising committee’s decision as the final step before certification.
‘Jana Nayagan’ was originally scheduled for release on January 9, 2026, coinciding with the Pongal festival. The film was initially reviewed by the CBFC on December 19, 2025, and was informed that it could receive a U/A 16+ certificate subject to certain cuts. Although the suggested edits were carried out and the film resubmitted, certification was later put on hold and the matter referred to the revising committee.
Earlier, the producers had approached the High Court seeking urgent certification, but with the latest decision to withdraw the petition, the matter has now shifted entirely to the certification process.
Directed by H. Vinoth, ‘Jana Nayagan’ is described as a commercial entertainer starring Vijay in the lead role alongside Bobby Deol, Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, Prakash Raj and Priyamani. The film features music by Anirudh Ravichander and has seen strong online engagement for its songs. Industry observers are now awaiting the revising committee’s decision, which will determine the timeline for the film’s delayed theatrical release.
