A Bengaluru sessions court framed charges against Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa, his associate Pavitra Gowda, and 15 others in the murder of 33-year-old fan Renukaswamy, invoking murder (IPC 302), criminal conspiracy (IPC 120B), kidnapping to murder (IPC 364), and disappearance of evidence (IPC 201). All 17 accused pleaded not guilty.

The court recorded their pleas, framed the charges, and adjourned the case to November 10 to fix the trial date.

Renukaswamy, a Chitradurga resident, was found dead near a stormwater drain in Bengaluru on June 9, 2024. Police allege he was abducted and tortured after sending offensive messages to Pavitra Gowda. According to the chargesheet, Pavitra struck the victim with a slipper, while Darshan allegedly assaulted his private parts after removing his pants, causing his death.

The accused also reportedly used a hot metal rod to brand Renukaswamy and administered electric shocks.

Investigators say Darshan attempted to shield himself by offering money to aides to falsely confess. Police recovered Rs 30 lakh given to associates to claim responsibility for the murder in exchange for payment. The actor and his associates were arrested after the surrender plot failed.
