A sedition case has been filed in Agra against film actress and Himachal Pradesh MP Kangana Ranaut for allegedly making derogatory remarks against farmers and Mahatma Gandhi, as per reports. The complaint was reportedly filed by advocate Ramashankar Sharma on September 11, 2024.

According to reports, the Agra court has accepted the revision petition filed against the BJP MP, and the matter is expected to be heard in the special MP-MLA court.

Reports suggest that Kangana Ranaut, who represents Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, allegedly made comments during an interview on August 26, 2024, that hurt the sentiments of farmers and citizens. The complainant claims her remarks were disrespectful towards both farmers and Mahatma Gandhi.

During the hearing before Special Judge Lokesh Kumar, arguments from both sides were reportedly presented. The court has reserved its order and scheduled the next hearing for November 29, stating that Kangana could be summoned to appear in person on that date.

As per the complaint, the case stems from Kangana’s comments in August 2024, where she allegedly stated that incidents of rape and murder occurred during the farmers’ protest, and that the situation could have worsened if the government had not withdrawn the farm laws. Advocate Ramashankar Sharma, who belongs to a farming family, has accused her of sedition, saying her statements deeply hurt the sentiments of farmers across the country.

The complainant also referred to Kangana’s past remarks, including her November 7, 2021 statement claiming that India gained real freedom only in 2014 when Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to power. He argued that such remarks were an insult to the sacrifices made by Mahatma Gandhi, Bhagat Singh, and other freedom fighters.
