Indian actor Jackie Shroff has filed an application today in the Delhi High Court objecting to the misuse of his name and the term ‘Bhidu’, which he is known for using.
In the application, he has urged that people use his name in their work without his permission. Therefore, the actor has decided to take legal steps over it.
Jackie has filed the application demanding authoritative action against using his name, likeness, and the word ‘Bhidu’.
He mentions in the application that if anyone uses his name, photo, voice, and the word ‘Bhidu’ without his permission, would be penalised with a fine of ₹2 cr.
The court has issued summons against all the accused. In addition, the court has ordered the ministry of electronics and information technology (MeitY) to remove all links where the actor’s rights are being misused. The court has kept the next hearing on May 15.
Shroff’s lawyer Praveen Anand argued in the court that “his image is being spoiled by using his personality. His name and his voice are being misused over bad memes and other posts.”
The actor’s plea urges to stop the use of the words ‘Jackie Shroff’, ‘Jackie’, ‘Jaggu Dada’, and ‘Bhidu’ on any platform.
The 67-year-old actor made his film debut in 1973 with the film Heera Panna. He has received 11 awards so far in his career, and he also has a huge fan following.
He is widely known for addressing a person with the term ‘Bhidu’ (a partner, fellow). His walk, expressions, and voice modulation are also distinctive in the industry.
