YouTuber and influencer Ranveer Allahbadia, who received the Disruption of the Year award at the National creator Awards from PM Narendra Modi, has now been booked by the Mumbai Police for ‘vulgar remarks’ and misusing the freedom of speech.

The Mumbai Commissioner of Police and Maharashtra Women’s Commission are demanding strict action against the ‘accused’ mentioned in the letter. Mumbai Police have registered a complaint against Apoorva Mukhija and Ranveer Allahbadia and organisers of the show, India’s Got Latent, for using inappropriate language on the show.

The complaint accuses Allahbadia, Raina, and others of using abusive language and making obscene comments about women on the show.

It states: “Complaint letter for registering an FIR against the serious crime of earning money under the guise of popularity through the online portal India’s Got Latent by Samay Raina, Ranveer Allahbadia, Apoorva, and other co-accused, deliberately laughing and using obscene words regarding private parts of women, making obscene comments, and hurting their dignity.”

The complainant termed one of the incidents as “very sensitive” and accused the show’s organisers and judges of committing a “criminal act by deliberately broadcasting content that degrades women’s dignity with the aim of gaining popularity and earning money through YouTube”.

The letter further alleged that the show spreads “obscene thoughts in the minds of minors”.

The complaint calls for an immediate FIR against the show’s organisers and a crackdown on similar controversial content. Many social media users joined the outrage, demanding the cancellation of India’s Got Latent and a boycott of both Raina and Allahbadia.

In the episode, where Apoorva Mukhija, the famous travel influencer, Ashish Chanchlani, a YouTuber, and Ranveer Allahbadia were seen together on India’s Got Talent which is hosted by Samay Raina, two of the famous influencers used abusive language, which could potentially influenced a larger crowd, given their massive fan following.

Ranveer Allahbadia, a YouTuber with 10.5 million subscribers on YouTube and 3.4 million followers on Instagram, was on the show, where he engaged in a conversation with a contestant and posed a question that we would obviously not want to repeat, but would have hurt the sensibilities of many.

Similarly, The Rebel Kid, with 516k subscribers on YouTube and 2.6 million followers on Instagram, replied abusively to a contestant. Although the contestant didn’t take it seriously, the internet erupted in response to the comment.

These YouTubers and influencers, knowing they have a large following, engaged in this abusive content.

The comment stirred outrage on the internet and left many with negative feelings towards the YouTuber. He is usually seen on his podcasts with clean content, avoiding slang or abusive language, but suddenly posed a shocking question to a contestant on the show.

Many users commented on Twitter, saying, “Now we can see the real face of the YouTuber,” while others said, “He couldn't handle the success.”

Some users also commented, “A harsh action is needed for such mentally sick YouTubers. Vulgarity cannot be justified as freedom of speech. The National Creators Award should be taken back immediately, and there is no need for such awards in the future.”

Others said, “Please stop this show and ask YouTubers to delete all videos. Poisonous to our society. Shameful act.”

Some X users also said, “It’s high time for the censor board to create certain guidelines against this type of content.”

Following the outrage over the comments made by these famous influencers, Maharashtra’s CM Devendra Fadnavis said in an interview, “I am aware of the situation and will take action. Freedom of speech should exist, but if it encroaches on other people’s space, it is dangerous, and I condemn such practices.”

He further added that using such language on YouTube, which appeals to the masses, is not appropriate, and proper action will be taken against those involved.

In response, Ranveer Allahabhadia posted an apology video on X.

He said, “Comedy is not my forte, and the comment was not appropriate. I am sorry for that.”

He continued, “People of all ages watch my YouTube podcast, and I don't want to cater to content like this. I sincerely apologize, and I have asked the content makers to remove that part of the video. I don’t wish to use my platform for such content. I had a lapse in judgment, and it didn’t look cool on my part. I don’t want to take my audience lightly.”

To which users replied, “This sorry won’t change your mentality. You are saying this only after landing in trouble and getting backlash from every corner of India."

Another user said, “With great power comes great responsibility. Good that you accepted the mistake. Someone with this kind of reach should always behave responsibly.”

Someone else commented, “That’s just how life works—every action leaves a mark, and this one will follow you. All you can do now is own it, learn from it, and decide what kind of person you want to be moving forward. But don’t expect people to forget.”

One user pointed out, “This is the celebrity pattern these days—they do anything and then say sorry. Most of the time, it’s not that they feel sorry; they apologize because it’s business, and their careers are at stake. It’s the pressure from handlers and sponsors.”

Another said, “You have already disrespected your family! Never going to trust whatever you have said and will say on your podcast?”
