India’s ‘All We Imagine as Light’ loses out on Golden Globes 2025
India’s ‘All We Imagine as Light’, nominated for Best Non-English Language Motion Picture category at the 2025 Golden Globes, lost to ‘Emilia Perez’ at the 82nd edition of the prestigious awards.
The film was nominated in not one, but two categories – Best Motion Picture (Non-English Language) and Best Director. Payal Kapadia is the third Asian woman to be nominated in the Best Director category.
‘All We Imagine as Light’ explores the lives of two Malayali nurses working in Mumbai. One is Prabha, a reserved woman yearning for her absent husband, while the other, her outgoing roommate Anu, becomes involved in a forbidden love affair.
Before its OTT release, the movie made history by becoming the first Indian film in the last 30 years to compete in the main section at the Cannes Film Festival, where it was honored with the Grand Prix.
Veteran actor Anupam Kher has lauded the internationally acclaimed film "All We Imagine as Light" by Payal Kapadia and said that it has left a profound impact on him.
Talking about the film, which has made its OTT debut, Anupam said: “‘All We Imagine as Light has left a profound impact on me. It’s rare to come across a film that not only tells a story but also stirs something deep within you. The narrative, the visuals, and the performances all come together so seamlessly, creating an experience that lingers in your heart.”
