Veteran actress Hema Malini received the posthumous Padma Vibhushan on behalf of her late husband, legendary actor Dharmendra, during a ceremony held in New Delhi on Monday, as per reports.

President Droupadi Murmu presented India’s second-highest civilian honour in recognition of Dharmendra’s immense contribution to Indian cinema and his enduring influence across generations.

The award celebrated the iconic actor’s remarkable journey in the film industry, spanning more than six decades. Widely regarded as one of Hindi cinema’s most beloved stars, Dharmendra left a lasting mark through performances that continue to resonate with audiences.

Hema Malini attended the ceremony dressed in a pink saree, while family members, including Ahana Deol, appeared emotional as the honour was presented.

Earlier, Hema Malini reportedly described the Padma Vibhushan as a long-awaited recognition of Dharmendra’s contribution to the nation. She said he was more than just a celebrated actor, calling him a cultural icon who symbolised simplicity, dignity and emotional depth in Indian cinema.

She also reflected on their personal and professional journey together, recalling their years as co-stars before marrying on May 2, 1980.

The posthumous Padma Vibhushan was presented as a tribute to Dharmendra’s enduring legacy and his invaluable contribution to India’s cultural heritage.
