‘He-Man’ cartoon series creator Roger Sweet dies at age of 91

Roger Sweet the creator of an action figure, 1980s cartoon series ‘He-Man and the Masters of the Universe’ died at the age of 91. He died during a battle with dementia, as per reports.

Sweet was the lead designer for Mattel’s Preliminary Design from the 1970 to 1980s era. This was the time when Sweet experimented with a fresh idea by gluing a Big Jim action figure into a fighting stance and adding the clay to its body for bulk. This became the prototype for the Mattel company, and they officially launched the action figure in the markets in 1982 as a toy. 

Followed a year later by the Mattel and Filmation company launched an animated series named ‘He-Man and Masters of the Universe’ that ran 130 episodes from 1983 to 85. Reportedly, the creator of this cartoon series died at the age of 91 due to dementia.

Sweet created the famous cartoon series character ‘He-man’ which took place on the magical planet of Eternia where the young prince Adam lives. Adam, who carries the ‘sword’as his weapon and when he says, “By the Power of Grayskull! I have the power,” then he turned him into He-Man which makes him the galaxy’s most fearsome warrior.

Currently, under the banner of Amazon, MGM and Mattel, the He-Man franchise is coming with an action film “Masters of the Universe,” which hits theaters on June 5. Nicholas Galitzine stars as He-Man.
