Hollywood actor Eric Dane has passed away at the age of 53 following a prolonged battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). The news has left fans and colleagues mourning the loss of the star, best known for his memorable role in television drama.

Earlier this year, after publicly revealing his ALS diagnosis in April, Dane had spoken candidly about the health struggles that prevented him from attending the 2025 Emmy Awards. He had been scheduled to reunite with former co-star Jesse Williams for a special tribute celebrating the 20th anniversary of Grey's Anatomy a project that held deep personal meaning for him.

However, worsening health complications kept him from participating in the event. In an interview with The Washington Post, Dane shared that he was hospitalized at the time of the Emmys and undergoing medical treatment. He described ALS as a devastating illness and explained that missing the reunion was beyond his control.

The actor admitted he was heartbroken about not being able to attend the tribute. Reuniting with Williams and presenting before colleagues from the long-running series was something he had been eagerly anticipating. Despite his disappointment, he acknowledged that his health had to take priority.

Dane earned widespread recognition for portraying Dr. Mark Sloan — affectionately known as “McSteamy” — on Grey’s Anatomy. He joined the series in 2006 during its second season and remained part of the cast until 2012. Originally introduced in a recurring role, his character quickly became a fan favorite, leading to his promotion as a main cast member.

His performance left a lasting impact on the show’s legacy and on audiences worldwide.
