Govinda-Sunita Ahuja Divorce Case Withdrawn; Manager Confirms ‘No Separation’

Govinda and his wife Sunita Ahuja are no longer heading towards divorce, with the actor’s manager Shashi Sinha confirming that Sunita has withdrawn her divorce petition. Sinha called the development “happy news” and said there is “no separation” between the couple, adding that he only regretted that their personal matter had become public.

Sunita had reportedly filed the petition at the Bandra Family Court on December 5, 2024, under Sections 13(1)(i), (ia) and (ib) of the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955. The grounds reportedly included adultery, cruelty and desertion after nearly 40 years of marriage.

Public dispute over Govinda’s co-star

The withdrawal comes after a fresh public exchange between the couple over Govinda’s Roopa co-star Komal Rani Swarnkar.

After Govinda was seen promoting the film with Swarnkar, Sunita questioned his association with the actress and said she was around their daughter’s age. She also referred to her earlier allegation that Govinda had cheated on her.

Govinda responded sharply, telling Sunita that she had been “abusing a lot” in public and warning that such behaviour could influence youngsters. He said, “You have made the name of mothers and sisters very cheap,” and asked her not to behave in a manner that could embarrass the family.

He also accused Sunita of interfering with his professional work after he began making his own film. Referring to her earlier appearances on a food show and Lock Upp, Govinda said she had previously sought his professional help through their daughter Tina. He alleged that since he started his film, she had repeatedly tried to damage his reputation and business.

Addressing her criticism of his association with younger actresses, Govinda defended the practice, saying that several established artists had worked with younger women and benefited professionally from such opportunities. He also alleged that a “group” or “gang” was behind Sunita and asked her to “stay within your limits”.

Couple had hinted at patch-up earlier

The latest development follows signs that the couple had already moved towards reconciliation.

In June, Sunita appeared on Lock Upp: Sach Ya Sazaa. Govinda came to receive her after she was eliminated and spoke about the difficult period they had experienced.

“I believe there was a tough phase God brought on us. We came out of it, and I pray it doesn’t happen in the future,” Govinda said. He added that he was with Sunita and hoped to remain by her side, describing her as “like a child”.

Sunita later said after leaving the show that she and Govinda were together. She said she had learnt that whatever happens should remain within the family.

Manager confirms divorce case withdrawn

Confirming the latest development, Sinha said Sunita had taken back the divorce case and that the couple was not separating. He described it as a case of someone realising their mistake and returning home, saying that he considered the decision a positive one.

He added that Govinda and their children were “neutral” about the decision and expressed hope that others would also have the wisdom to resolve such matters.

Govinda and Sunita’s upcoming projects

On the professional front, Govinda is working on Roopa, while Sunita is preparing for her big-screen debut alongside their son Yash in an Ekta Kapoor film. The project is scheduled to release in September.
