From bulletproof enclosures and glass to armed escorts, Bollywood stars are strengthening security measures amid growing threats, with Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan among those changing how they interact with fans.

Amitabh Bachchan's latest Sunday fan meet outside his Mumbai residence took place behind a bulletproof enclosure on November 1, while Shah Rukh Khan has moved farther away from crowds during his public appearances, reflecting growing security concerns among Bollywood celebrities following the shooting incident involving Tiger Shroff.

Bulletproof Enclosure Marks Change In Amitabh Bachchan's Sunday Fan Meet

For decades, Bachchan's Sunday tradition of greeting fans outside his Juhu residence has remained one of Bollywood's most cherished rituals. However, his latest appearance came with additional security arrangements, with a transparent bulletproof enclosure separating the veteran actor from the crowd.

His son, actor Abhishek Bachchan, stood nearby as his father waved to fans while security personnel kept watch over the gathering.

The heightened security outside Amitabh Bachchan's Juhu residence comes after a bomb threat email reportedly named his bungalow, Jalsa, along with singer Diljit Dosanjh's concert venue and the Mumbai Mayor's Office.

According to PTI, the email, which was also marked to Deputy Mayor Sanjay Ghadi, threatened to target Jalsa between October 31 and November 27.

Following the threat, Mumbai Police and security agencies were placed on high alert.

Shah Rukh Khan Keeps Greater Distance From Fans At Mannat

Shah Rukh Khan has also changed his usual approach to greeting fans outside his Mumbai residence, Mannat. This year, the actor waved to admirers from a spot considerably farther away from the crowd than his usual position.

The change comes amid heightened security concerns surrounding Bollywood celebrities following the recent shooting.

Salman Khan's Security Also Tightened

Earlier, Salman Khan made his first public appearance after the reported attack on Tiger Shroff, arriving at a private airport in Mumbai on Tuesday morning amid heightened security.

Armed officers from the Special Protection Unit accompanied the actor, who was surrounded by a larger-than-usual security team.

He had bulletproof glass installed on the balcony of his Galaxy Apartments residence in Mumbai's Bandra in January 2025, from where he traditionally greets fans on Eid and his birthday. He also imported a bulletproof car in 2024 amid threats to his life.

Salman Khan's Residence Was Targeted In 2024

Salman has faced threats linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang in the past. In April 2024, gunshots were fired outside his residence, Galaxy Apartments, in Mumbai. The Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for the shooting.

Later that year, Baba Siddique, a politician and close friend of Salman, was shot dead in October. A subsequent Mumbai Police chargesheet stated that Siddique's close association with the actor could have been a factor in his killing.

Salman subsequently strengthened security at his residence. In January 2025, bulletproof glass was installed on the balcony of Galaxy Apartments, from where he traditionally greets fans on Eid and his birthday. He had also imported a bulletproof car in 2024 amid threats to his life.

Tiger Shroff Shooting Incident Triggers Security Concerns

The security concerns intensified after gunmen opened fire at Tiger Shroff's car in Mumbai's Juhu area on October 18, prompting the actor to install bulletproof protection on his car's windshield.

An unverified voice message circulated after the incident reportedly named Salman Khan and threatened members of the film industry associated with him. The speakers also allegedly claimed responsibility for the shooting, though the recording's authenticity remains unverified.

Experts Back Security Measures As Concerns Grow Over Restricted Fan Meets

Actor Ronit Roy, who runs a celebrity security agency, said the bulletproof enclosure was a necessary precaution for Amitabh Bachchan and should have been introduced earlier, as risks increase whenever celebrities step outside their homes, as per Hindustan times.

Security consultant Yusuf Ibrahim, who has worked with Alia Bhatt and Shah Rukh Khan, also backed the measures, saying prevention was better than cure. However, he described them as temporary arrangements and hoped law enforcement agencies would act against those responsible for the threats.

Advertising professional Prahlad Kakkar called the restrictions on fan interactions “unfortunate”, saying criminal elements had created an atmosphere of fear among celebrities. He warned that growing threats, both national and international, could further limit access to stars.

Kakkar added that direct interaction between actors and fans remained more common in South Indian cinema, while Bollywood's increasingly rigid star system had reduced such opportunities.
